We’re halfway through the year, and whether you realize it or not, you’ve been carrying things with you since January… maybe even longer. Some of it helped you survive. Some of it shaped you. But not all of it is meant to go with you into the next season.
Mid-year isn’t just a checkpoint for goals—it’s a mirror.
So pause for a moment and ask yourself honestly: What am I still holding on to that’s slowing me down?
Sometimes it’s not obvious. It doesn’t always look like failure or fear. Sometimes it looks like comfort. Familiarity. Even loyalty.
You might be holding on to:
Old versions of yourself that no longer fit who you’re becoming People or relationships that drain more than they pour into you Guilt from past decisions that God has already forgiven you for Fear of starting over because you’ve invested so much already The need for validation from people who were never assigned to understand you
And here’s the hard truth: just because you carried it this far doesn’t mean you’re supposed to keep carrying it.
Growth requires release.
There are things we cling to because they feel safe—but in reality, they’re just familiar. And familiar doesn’t always mean healthy. Sometimes the very thing you’re holding on to is the reason things feel heavy, stuck, or delayed.
You can’t walk into new doors dragging old weight.
The Bible reminds us in Hebrews 12:1 to “lay aside every weight… and run with endurance.” Notice it doesn’t say sprint while holding everything—it says lay it aside.
That means being honest about what’s weighing you down.
Maybe it’s time to forgive—even if you never get an apology.
Maybe it’s time to release the version of life you thought you’d have by now.
Maybe it’s time to stop over-explaining yourself to people committed to misunderstanding you.
Maybe it’s time to trust God enough to let go—even when you don’t know what’s next.
Letting go doesn’t mean you didn’t care. It means you care enough about your future to stop letting your past control it.
Reflection Questions:
What feels heavy in my life right now? What am I afraid will happen if I let this go? Is this helping me grow… or keeping me stuck? Have I prayed about releasing this, or just learned to live with it?
This is your reminder: you still have time to shift your year.
You don’t need a new year to become a new version of yourself. You just need the courage to release what no longer aligns.
A Short Prayer:
God,
Show me what I’ve been holding on to that is no longer serving me.
Give me the strength to release what’s heavy, even when it’s hard.
Help me trust You with what I’m letting go of, and guide me into what’s next.
Renew my mind, my heart, and my direction for the rest of this year.
Amen.
You’re not behind. You’re being refined.
Now the question is—what are you ready to put down?
